History of Michisakari from 1771

Our brewery’s founder Tetsuzi Mizuno
A sake barrel
The founder of MICHISAKARI was Tetsuji Mizuno, who started to brew sake in 1771 here. At that time, the brand name was MARUO which was kept until the end of the 19th century, when it was changed to KOGANE. In 1926, MICHISAKARI was chosen as the new name. It means “we shall flourish for three thousand years.” In the 1960s, sweet sake was popular. Chairman Takakichi Mizuno loved dry sake and he had our chief brewer make super dry sake, which was really unusual at that time, although there were some drinkers who loved dry sake.
A famous novelist in Japan, Tatsuo Nagai found our Sake by chance. He prefered it, so he recommended it to many acquaintances and then many Japanese restaurants started serving MICHISAKARI sake.
Now it is considered the best brand in the dry sake field.

The old brewery:

The old brewery was active from 1771 until 1992. Now it is only used for aging. It was made with wood and clay, so in winter it is not too cold, and in summer it is cool in the building. Year-round it maintains a constant temperature needed for brewing. There has always been a positive atmosphere in the brewery.

The new brewery:

We built the new brewery in 1992 to better control the temperature. This was necessary because the winters in Japan have been getting warmer over time. The new brewery is run by a staff of six.
